about

The debut album from this Nashville-based quartet uses bluegrass instrumentation to blend indie, americana, and roots music in a distinct, lyrical style.

All songs recorded January 2011 at Waterworks Entertainment in East Nashville, TN. Engineered and produced by Rosemary Haskins.

The Bourbon Family was born into the loving arms of Nashville, TN in 2008.
--Matthew Semler was raised in the rolling hills of southern Virginia. He developed his songwriting at a young age, achieving success with the Charlottesville band Flashbulb Diary, including the release of their well-received self-titled EP and full-length "The Life I've Grown Accustomed To," before following a girl to Tennessee. His lyrics have been recognized by American Songwriter magazine, growing his reputation as an up-and-coming Nashville songwriter.
--Jay Montgomery grew up in central Kansas and learned the banjo playing with The Carney Sisters, further developing his craft with Kansas-based The Mopetown Three before moving to Nashville. A multi-instrumentalist, Jay brings dobro, guitar, and harmonica in addition to banjo.
--Ashley Tauriac, a classically trained violinist, moved from the badlands of New Mexico to the heartland in 2006. As lead singer of Music Attack Complex, she performed at well-known Nashville venues including 3rd and Lindsley and at Nashville's famed Broadway music scene before joining the Bourbon Family.
--Dan Stover started on the fiddle at the age of 5 back in Ohio but shifted to the mandolin upon arriving in Nashville. After further instruction under Roland White, he headed up the short-lived but acclaimed Stover Mountain Boys before falling in as the final member of the Bourbon Family.
